Biathlon athlete, Champion 2006 – soldier-athlete

Simone Denkinger is a successful biathlon athlete from Schönwald. Born in 1979, Simone started cross-country skiing when she was six years old. When she was ten her father took her to a biathlon training for the fist time. Although she was the only girl in her family, she was hooked on the sport immediately. She enrolled in a Ski Boarding School in Furtwangen where she studied and trained with Martin Schmitt and Georg Hettich.

After passing her university entry exam and a gap year to do voluntary work in a local hospital, Simone became a soldier-athlete in 1999. A three-time junior world champion, she regularly placed among the top 20 during her first World Cup season in 2002–2003. In the World Championships in 2003–2004, Simone won the bronze medal with the relay team and barely missed individual medals. She ended the 2005–2006 season in 11th place after achieving 11 top-10 achievements.

Simone is convinced that a balanced, healthy diet and the right balance between physical exertion and relaxation considerably improves her well-being and contributes to a positive attitude in life. In her spare time she likes to read, visit her friends, watch a movie, or go out to dinner at good restaurants with her boyfriend.
